Infection of the uterus is called pyometra. Pyometra is a fairly common disease in older, intact (not spayed) female dogs. Signs associated with pyometra include lethargy, decreased appetite, increased thirst and urination, and abdominal distention. There may or may not be a vaginal discharge. Pyometra is a potentially life threatening condition.
